For all those energetic nature lovers, here are some interesting nature trails in the Paphos region to exercise your passion:
- STAVROS TIS PSOKAS
The Paphos forest is the largest and most beautiful pine forest of the island, where, if you’re lucky, can spot Cyprus’ national animal, the Ovis Gmelini Ophion (otherwise know as the Cyprus Mouflon). There are 3 nature trails in this particular region:
- Horteri Trail (circular) – The starting point of the trail is at the “Platanouthkia” site, which is about half way on the Stavros tis Psokas-Selladi tou Stavrou road. The length of the trail is about 5km and can be done in roughly 2 hours.
- Selladi tou Stavrou Trail (circular) – The starting point of the trail is at “Selladi tou Stavrou”. The length of the trail is 2.6km and can be walked in roughly 1 hour.
- Selladi tou Stavrou - Heliport – The starting point of the trail is “Selladi tou Stavrou”. The length of the trail is 1.9km and can be done in roughly 1 hour
- AKAMAS
The Akamas peninsula is located at the westernmost point of the island of Cyprus. Akamas boasts a variety of natural beauty, and is a superb location for picnics, sunbathing, fishing, bird watching, cycling and walking. There are 5 nature trails in the Akamas region:
- Aphrodite Trail (circular) - This trail begins at the Baths of Aphrodite, the lenght is 7.5km and walking time is roughly 3 hours.
- Adonis Trail (circular) – The starting point of this trail is at the Baths of Aphrodite, with a length of 7.5 km, it takes 3 hours to walk.
- Smigies Trail (circular) – This trail starts at Smigies picnic site, its lenght is 5km and takes 2 hours to walk.
- Pissouromouttis Trail (circular) – This trail begins at Smigies picnic site, it has a length of 3km and walking time is about 1.5hours.
- Kathikas Trail (circular) – The starting point of this trail is 1km from Kathikas (towards Pegeia, near “Kyparissos” restaurant). It’s length is 2km and takes 1 hour to walk.
